Alara Reborn Set Review and Card Evaluations

Echoing Vindicate? Yes please! Jon and Kate + 8 - 5
I have done set reviews since Morningtide at this point, and it's something I enjoy doing. When you read this remember: I wrote this before the prerelease. If it is now months after Alara Reborn is out and you're reading this, these were all predictions without anyone having played with these cards yet. That being said, I hope you enjoy the review and find it informative, and I hope you all have fun at your prerelease and release events. If you want to discuss this set review, there's a link at the bottom of the page to the thread on the mtgsalvation forums related to this. Oh yeah, and since this is really long, I've been nice and added a table of contents so you can easily navigate the page. Sadly, all the cards in Alara Reborn are multicolour so I couldn't break them down by colour like with Conflux, but I the cards are all in order so you can find them easily. Enjoy!

Table of contents:
1. Card Reviews
2. An Overview of Alara Reborn

Alara Reborn 145/145 Card Evaluations
Ardent Plea	1wu
Enchantment	Uncommon
Exalted
Cascade

I don't know if this will be viable for standard, but I definitely feel like an exalted deck in block
would like this. Excellent card for limited as well, and I really like how elegantly designed it is. I wish
that foil cards didn't have reminded text like in 10th, because the text box on this card is filled to
the brim with reminder text, and it would look really nice and elegant with just the words "Exalted, Cascade".

Aven Mimeomancer	1wu
Creature - Bird Wizard	Rare
Flying
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put a feather counter on target creature. If you do, that creature is
3/1 and has flying as long as it
has a feather counter on it.
3/1

This guy is definitely a bomb in limited, but I think his ability is too slow to be playable in constructed,
especially since he's lacking the flash that makes Vendillion Clique so worthwhile.

Ethercaste Knight	wu
Artifact Creature - Human Knight	Common
Exalted
1/3

Another solid limited card. I actually like this guy better than Sighted-Caste Sorcerer and like how this
set really increases the speed of limited.

Ethersworn Shieldmage	1wu
Artifact Creature - Vedalken Wizard	Common
Flash
When Ethersworn Shieldmage comes into play, prevent all damage that would be dealt to artifact creatures until end of turn.
2/2

I still don't expect esper to become viable in constructed, but this is definitely a powerful limited card,
especially at common. Don't forget, he prevents damage to himself too!

Fieldmist Borderpost	1wu
Artifact	Common
You may pay 1 and return a basic land you control its owner's hand rather than pay Fieldmist Borderpost's mana cost.
Fieldmist Borderpost comes into play tapped.
{T}: Add {W} or {U} to your mana pool.

These cards are better than I originally gave them credit for. I hate how ugly the wording on the cards is,
but they're just like the Invasion CIPT lands (Like Elfhame Palace), except instead of being lands they're
multicoloured artifacts. They play just like lands, and you should count them as lands when you're building
your decks. Given the power level of CIPT lands like Vivid lands or the tri-lands from Shards these are a
disappontment, but they're still decent limited fixing. I also plan on using this to remove the drawback of
Mirror-Sigil Sergeant, but otherwise they're just not that good. (If these were worded more elegantly or came
into play untapped when you pay the mana cost, maybe I'd like it more.

Filigree Angel	5wwu
Artifact Creature - Angel	Rare
Flying
When Filigree Angel comes into play, you gain 3 life for each artifact you control.
4/4

This guy is lights out in limited. He's an expensive flying creature, but in a dedicated esper deck you
can easily gain 21 life with some obelisks and borderposts. This won't see any constructed play, but it's
another great casual card. In a casual artifact deck I would expect nothing but artifact lands, so this
guy would give you 27 life minimum, probably much more.

Glassdust Hulk	3wu
Artifact Creature - Golem	Common
Whenever another artifact comes into play under your control, Glassdust Hulk gets +1/+1 until end of turn and is
unblockable this turn.
Cycling {wu}
3/4

This guy is probably the best of the one mana cyclers, but is still not playable in constructed.

Meddling Mage wu
Creature - Human Wizard	Rare
As Meddling Mage comes into play, name a nonland card.
The named card can't be played.
2/2

This guy is already a known commodity. He'll see some play in standard, probably in faeries and merfolk, and make a huge
splash back into extended.

Offering to Asha 2wu
Instant	Common
Counter target spell unless its controller pays 4. You gain 4 life.

This card is good, but it's no Absorb. Decent in limited, but not a high pick. Might see play in standard when Cryptic
Command leaves, but definitely nowhere near as much as Cryptic sees.

Sanctum Plowbeast	4wu
Artifact Creature - Beast	Common
Defender
Plainscycling 2, islandcycling 2
3/6

Does this guy really need defender? For one more mana (but not multicoloured) we get a 5/5 creature with cycling.
This guy will still be played for fixing, but there's no reason for it to have defender.

Shield of the Righteous	wu
Artifact - Equipment	Uncommon
Equipped creature gets +0/+2 and has vigilance.
Whenever equipped creature blocks a creature, that creature doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.
Equip 2

This is a very high pick in limited and very powerful, but not good enough for constructed play.

Sovereigns of Lost Alara	4wu
Creature - Spirit	Rare
Exalted
Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, you may search your library for an Aura card that can enchant it and put it
into play attached to that creature. If you do, shuffle your library afterwards.
4/5

Big, reasonably priced, flying creatures are always bombs in limited and this will be no exception. Like most cards
involving creature enchantments it's not like to see constructed play, but it's a nice addition for casual and EDH decks
using Zur.

Stormcaller's Boon	2wu
Enchantment	Common
Cascade
Sacrifice Stormcaller's Boon: Creatures you control gain flying until end of turn.

This is surprisingly powerful for limited. Four mana to give all your creatures evasion is a reasonable cost, and you get
another spell out of it. The fact that this is an enchantment instead of a sorcery or instant makes it particularly good
since you can cast it to get the free spell but not go in for the kill until turns later.

Talon Trooper	1wu
Creature - Bird Scout	Common
Flying
2/3

Not as good as Aven Trailblazer, but still a solid limited creature.

Unwinding Scale	2wu
Artifact	Uncommon
{T}: Untap another target permanent.

This is pretty unexciting, and is a 23rd card at best.

Wall of Denial	1wu
Creature - Illusion Wall	Uncommon
Defender, flying, shroud
0/8

The success of Plumeveil and Wall of Reverence has people all over this guy. This thing is great in limited, but is unlikley to see
see constructed play until Plumeveil is gone.

Architects of Will	2ub
Artifact Creature - Human Wizard	Common
When Architects of Will comes into play, look at the top three cards of target player's library and put them back in any order.
Cycling {ub}
3/3

Decent limited card, but probably a mid-late pick. A hill giant is always at least borderline playable
in limited, albeit unexciting, but this guy has a relevant CIP ability and is one of the first cards
ever to cycle for a single mana. The fact that you can manipulator either your library or your opponent's
make this a nice skill tester as well.

Brainbite	2ub
Sorcery	Common
Target opponent reveals his or her hand. You choose a card from it. That player discards that card.
Draw a card.

Even though this spell is properly costed, it just feels too expensive for the effect. Alright in limited since it's such a bomb
heavy format, but too expensive for constructed.

Deny Reality	3ub
Sorcery	Common
Return target permanent to its owner's hand.
Cascade

Five mana for a sorcery speed boomerang? It's like they went out of their way to make cascade unplayable in constructed.
This is still fine for limited since the tempo of bouncing their creature and potentially getting a 4 drop creature of your
own is pretty severe, but I'm still angry.

Etherium Abomination	3ub
Artifact Creature - Horror	Common
Unearth 1{U}{B}
4/3

He's no shambling remains but still a great limited critter. Probably a 4th or 5th pick.

Illusory Demon	1ub
Creature - Demon Illusion	Uncommon
Flying
When you play a spell, sacrifice Illusory Demon.
4/3

He's no Skittering Skirge but...I can't figure out how to end that sentence. I guess you can think of it as a burn spell, in
which case 3 mana for 4 damage is fine. I feel like I'm severely underestimating this card, but I'm not a big fan.
Definitely nice to draw in a topdeck war though.

Jhessian Zombies	4ub
Creature - Human Zombie	Common
Islandcycling 2, swampcycling 2
Fear
2/4

Wow, they really made these guys as unplayable as they could to make sure you cycle them. Six fucking mana for
a 2 power evasion creature? I dare you to look at Twisted Abomination and tell me that these cards aren't a fucking
disgrace.

Kathari Remnant	2ub
Creature - Bird Skeleton	Uncommon
Flying
{B}: Regenerate Kathari Remnant.
Cascade
0/1

WOW. Four fucking mana for a Will-o-the-Wisp? I really that Will-o is extremely efficient, but this guy is sooo bad in
constructed. Cascade makes it playable in limited, but cascade is too unpredictable to realy justify this sort of
cost.

Lich Lord of Unx 1ub
Creature - Zombie Wizard	Rare
{U}{B}, {T}: Put a 1/1 blue and black Zombie Wizard creature token into play.
{U}{U}{B}{B}: Target player loses X life and puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard where X is the number
of Zombies you control.
2/2

It's slow and mana intensive, but this guy is still a bomb. He has one ability that features two types of win conditions, and
most importantly that ability doesn't cause him to tap. This guy will be another favourite of casual players.

Mask of Riddles ub
Artifact - Equipment	Uncommon
Equipped creature has fear.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, you may draw a card.
Equip 2

Not quite good enough for constructed, but a great card in limited. Reusable evasion + card draw = crazy awesome.

Mind Funeral	1ub
Sorcery	Uncommon
Target opponent reveals cards from the top of his or her library until four land cards are revealed. That player puts all cards revealed
this way into his or her graveyard.

This card is extremely powerful in limited in multiples. Two of these, if played late game or if your opponent cracks a few fetch lands,
can be game over. Three is almost a sure win. Not quite as powerful in constructed, but a great budget replacement
for Glimpse the Unthinkable for casual players, and even better when played side by side!

Mistvein Borderpost	1ub
Artifact	Common
You may pay 1 and return a basic land you control its owner's hand rather than pay Mistvein Borderpost's mana cost.
Mistvein Borderpost comes into play tapped.
{T}: Add {U} or {B} to your mana pool.

See Fieldmist Borderpost.

Nemesis of Reason	3ub
Creature - Leviathan Horror	Rare
Whenever Nemesis of Reason attacks, defending player puts the top ten cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
3/7

Take that, reason! This guys is lights out in limited and tons of fun for casual. Sadly, he's too expensive for constructed.

Soul Manipulation	1ub
Instant	Common
Choose one or both: Counter target creature spell; and/or return target creature card in your graveyard to your hand.

This card is card advantage in limited. I'd even say this is playable in constructed since the only good 3 mana counter
is Dream Fracture, and that card still isn't getting the respect it deserves. Also, this is card advantage whereas
Dream Fracture is effectively 0 for 0.

Soulquake	3uubb
Sorcery	Rare
Return all creatures in play and all creature cards in graveyards to their owners' hands.

Evacuation + Empty the Catacombs = total crap. Definitely has some casual applications, but otherwise I expect
my 7 mana spels to actually help win the game.

Time Sieve	ub
Artifact	Rare
{T}, Sacrifice five artifacts: Take an extra turn after this one.

I love this card. I feel confident that it has some sort of constructed application, but it's a fun casual card so that's
enough for me.

Vedalken Ghoul ub
Artifact Creature - Zombie Vedalken?	Common
Whenever Vedalken Ghoul is blocked by a creature, that creature's controller loses 4 life.
1/1

Meh. Battle-Mad Ronin was playable as a 23rd card and so is this. They're both basically 1/1 unblockables for 2,
but this one isn't quite as good.

Anathemancer	1br
Creature - Zombie Wizard	Uncommon
When Anathemancer comes into play, it deals damage to target player equal to the number of nonbasic lands that player controls.
Unearth 5{B}{R}
2/2

Certainly a good sideboard card if nothing else. Late game against decks like 5 colour control
this thing is absolutely lights out. It's true constructed value is going to be very metagame
dependant, but it has a lot of potential. In limited there's a good chance you'll do 0 damage if your
opponent's only mana fixing are artifacts or fetch lands, so I'd leave this guy on the board for
more efficient creatures like Dregscape Zombie or Shambling Remains.

Bituminous Blast	3br
Instant	Uncommon
Cascade (When you play this spell, remove cards from the top of your library until you remove a nonland card that costs less. You may
play it without paying its mana cost. Put the removed cards on the bottom in a random order.)
Bituminous Blast deals 4 damage to target creature.

This is a 1st pick in limited for sure. This is probably the least overcosted of the cascade spells, but still too
expensive for constructed.

Breath of Malfegor	4br
Sorcery	Common
Breath of Malfegor deals 5 damage to each opponent.

Worse than Lava Axe, but still playable as a 23rd card.

Deathbringer Thoctar	4br
Creature - Zombie Beast	Rare
Whenever another creature is put into a graveyard from play, you may put a +1/+1 counter on Deathbringer Thoctar.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from Deathbringer Thoctar: Deathbringer Thoctar deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
3/3

Too slow for constructed, but this is another huge bomb in limited and great casual card. Once a single creature dies, you
can wipe the board of any 1 toughness creatures will be great against my friend's ridiculous saproling dekc.

Defiler of Souls	3bbr
Creature - Demon	Mythic Rare
Flying
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player sacrifices a monocolored creature.
5/5

Above all, this is a 5/5 flyer for 6 which makes it great in limited. It's Abyss ability requires an awful lot of building
around and islikely to hurt you as much as it hurts your opponent.

Demonic Dread	1br
Sorcery	Common
Cascade
Target creature cant block this turn.

I'm pretty sure this is the absolute worst card in the set, and even this is a 23rd card in limited (Moderately
relevant ability and cascade, so you can get a little creature or something out of it). This still saddens me
as the design of this card makes it pretty clear that they never intended to put cascade on anything terribly
good.

Demonspine Whip	br
Artifact - Equipment	Uncommon
{X}: Equipped creature gets +X/+0 until end of turn.
Equip 1
Using a spine to break a slave's back appeals to the Grixis sense of irony.
	#39/145
Absolute bomb in limited. The fact that this only costs 1 to equip makes me think it even has a place in
constructed R/B aggro decks.

Igneous Pouncer	4br
Creature - Elemental	Common
Haste
Swampcycling 2, mountaincycling 2
5/1

One of the better creatures in this cycle since it has 5 power and haste, but it still dies to everything ever. At least this one
can actually be worth casting.

Kathari Bomber	1br
Creature - Bird Shaman	Common
Flying
When Kathari Bomber deals combat damage to an opponent, sacrifice Kathari Bomber and put two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens into play.
Unearth 3{B}{R}
2/2

This guy is great. For 3 mana you get a Shock and a Dragon Fodder on one card, AND you can replay it! This guy has some serious
constructed potential, although all the effective walls make me a little unsure of whether or not he'll make the cut.

Lightning Reaver 3br
Creature - Zombie Beast	Rare
Fear, haste
Whenever Lightning Reaver deals combat damage to a player, put a charge counter on it.
At the end of your turn, Lightning Reaver deals damage equal to the number of charge counters on it to each opponent.
3/3

There's a lot of haste in this set. This guy's good and definitely playable, but in Shards limited fear isn't the evasion it normally
is so you're less likely to get 4 damage in the turn you play this guy.

Monstrous Carabid	3rb
Creature - Insect	Common
Monstrous Carabid must attack each turn, if able.
Cycling {rb}
4/4

Another solid limited guy, though probably a later pick.

Sanity Gnawers 1br
Creature - Rat	Common
When Sanity Gnawers comes into play, target opponent discards a card at random.
1/1

This guy should cost 1 less. As is, he's pretty bad.

Singe-Mind Ogre	2br
Creature - Ogre Mutant	Common
When Singe-Mind Ogre comes into play, target player reveals a card from his or her hand at random. Singe-Mind Ogre deals
damage to that player equal to its converted mana cost.
3/2

Probably a 5th or 6th pick. Playable as a Hill Giant and has potential to do some damage in a format full of high
mana bombs, but hardly a first pick.

Terminate	br
Instant	Common
Destroy target creature. It can't be regenerated.

This card is already a known commodity, and also quite awesome. One of the best removal spells ever.

Thought Hemorrhage	2br
Sorcery	Rare
Name a nonland card. Target player reveals his or her hand. Thought Hemorrhage deals 3 damage to that player for each card with
that name revealed this way. Search that player's graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with that name and remove them from the
game. Then that player shuffles his or her library.

Ever think to yourself "Wow, Cranial Extraction as fucking terrible. They need to make it better"? Well you got your wish, so
on behalf of all control players I'd like to say: Go fuck yourself.

Veinfire Borderpost	1br
Artifact	Common
You may pay 1 and return a basic land you control its owner's hand rather than pay Veinfire Borderpost's mana cost.
Vein Fire Borderpost comes into play tapped.
{T}: Add {B} or {R} to your mana pool.

See Fieldmist Borderpost.

Blitz Hellion	3rg
Creature - Hellion	Rare
Trample, haste
At end of turn, Blitz Hellion's owner shuffles it into his or her library.
7/7

Strong in limited, but I wish it wasn't rare. I know it's too strong in limited to show up at uncommon, but I just dislike this card.
It's not bad, but I'd rather have Beacon of Destruction.

Bloodbraid Elf	2rg
Creature - Elf Berserker	Uncommon
Haste
Cascade (When you play this spell, remove cards from the top of your library from the game until you reveal a nonland card that costs less. You may
play it without paying its mana cost. Put the removed cards on the bottom in a random order.
3/2

This should be a high limited pick since it's a 3 power haste for 4 with cascade, and even has constructed potential. Flipping a Boggart Ram-Gang
or any other haste guy or burn off of this is great.

Colossal Might	rg
Instant	Common
Target creature gets +4/+2 and gains trample until end of turn.

Nice limited trick. Giant growth effects have always been great in limited (And sometimes in constructed), so adding trample
and more power is worth the extra mana.

Deadshot Minotaur	3rg
Creature - Minotaur	Uncommon
Cycling {rg}
When Deadshot Minotaur comes into play, Deadshot Minotaur deals 3 damage to target creature with flying.
3/4

Another decent limited card. It's more likely to be cycled since there's a surprising lack of flyers in
Alara block limited making him an inefficient creature, but yay for flexibility.

Dragon Broodmother	2rrrg
Creature - Dragon	Mythic Rare
Flying
At the beginning of each upkeep, put a 1/1 red and green Dragon creature token with flying and devour 2 into play. (As the token comes
into play, you may sacrifice any number of creatures. It comes into play with twice that many +1/+1 counters on it.)
4/4

It may be smaller than Verdant Force, but it costs less, has evasion, and makes better tokens. Bomb in limited, likely to overtake
Verdant Force in casual decks as well as going into all casual dragon decks, and has constructed potential. I actually like this
better than Broodmate Dragon, but I'm sure I'm in the minority.

Firewild Borderpost	1rg
Artifact	Common
You may pay 1 and return a basic land you control its owner's hand rather than pay Firewild Borderpost's mana cost.
Firewild Borderpost comes into play tapped.
{T}: Add {R} or {G} to your mana pool.

See Fieldmist Borderpost.

Godtracker of Jund	1rg
Creature - Elf Shaman	Common
Whenever a creature with power 5 or greater comes into play under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on Godtracker of Jund.
2/2

Another decent limited card, but not a high pick because even in naya you won't have too many 5 power
creatures.

Gorger Wurm	3rg
Creature - Wurm	Common
Devour 1
5/5

Limited fodder, but better than Streetbreaker Wurm which was a high limited pick.

Mage Slayer	1rg
Artifact - Equipment	Uncommon
Whenever equipped creature attacks, it deals damage equal to its power to defending player.
Equip 3

This is a really nice effect and a high pick in limited, but too expensive for constructed. Great for casual though.

Predatory Advantage	3rg
Enchantment	Rare
At the end of each opponent's turn, if that player didn't play a creature spell this turn, put a 2/2 green Lizard creature into play.

This costs 5 mana? Really? I know it would be broken at 1 mana, but there is a middle ground. There are so many better options
in these colours to deal with control.

Rhox Brute	2rg
Creature - Rhino Common
4/4

Oh, seriously? We're getting 4/4's for 4 with no drawback at common now? I guess the fact that this isn't constructed playable
says something, but shocked to see this at common. Grab these as fast as you can, because they won't go far.

Spellbreaker Behemoth	1rgg
Creature - Beast	Rare
Spellbreaker Behemoth can't be countered.
Creature spells you control with power 5 or greater can't be countered.
5/5

I feel like he should make all your creature spells uncounterable, but the important thing is that he's an uncounterable 5/5
for 4. The other ability is just icing anyway.

Valley Rannet	4rg
Creature - Beast Common
Mountaincycling 2, forestcycling 2
6/3

This guy isn't that overcosted either. I wonder why the first two were so fucking terrible.

Vengeful Rebirth 4rg
Sorcery	Uncommon
Return a card from your graveyard to hand. If it is a nonland card, Vengeful Rebirth deals damage equal to that card's converted
card mana cost to target creature or player.
Remove Vengeful Rebirth from the game.

I really wish this didn't remove itself from the game so when you got two of them you had infinitely recursive removal/win
condition, but oh well. Without that ability it's too expensive for constructed, but it's still fine removal with card advantage
in limited. Probably a mid-high pick.

Violent Outburst 1rg
Instant	Common
Cascade
Creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.

Hearth Charm does this, with versatility, for 1 mana. I know cascade is good, but this isn't worth 3 mana.

Vithian Renegades	1rg
Creature - Human Shaman	Uncommon
When Vithian Renegades comes into play, destroy target artifact.
3/2

If you have the colours for it, it's just better than Viridian Shaman. Sadly that's not really relevant in constructed at the moment,
but definitely worth it for limited.

Behemoth Sledge	1gw
Artifact - Equipment	Uncommon
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and has lifelink and trample.
Equip 3

I remember this card when it was called Loxodon Warhammer. While +2/+2 is probably better than +3/+0, colourless mana is
better than 2 specific, different colours. This will still see play over Warhammer in decks that can support it and is ridiculous
in limited, but I'm saddened by the lack of creativity with this.

Captured Sunlight	2gw
Sorcery	Common
Gain 4 life.
Cascade

Life gain isn't great, but cascade at least makes this a 23rd card for limited.

Dauntless Escort	1gw
Creature - Rhox Soldier	Rare
Sacrifice Dauntless Escort: Creatures you control are indestructible this turn.
3/3

Seriously? This guy is a bomb in limited and amazing in constructed. A 3/3 for 3 is already efficient,
but the fact that he makes your other guys Wrath proof is amazing. It's like a Burrenton Forge-Tender
fucked a Tarmogoyf and this is what came out. This guy even lets you play an aggro or mid-range deck, which
will be very possible with the crazy G/W cards in this set, and run your own Wrath of Gods. Absolutely amazing
card.

Enlisted Wurm	4gw
Creature - Wurm	Uncommon
Cascade
5/5

This is a great limited card, because it's a good beater and isn't extremely overcosted just to add cascade.

Grizzled Leotau	gw
Creature - Cat	Common
1/5

There are better 2 mana options in G/W, but this is still a solid common and buys you a lot of time in the early
game. This will undoubtedly see play in Doran decks, but I expect that to be short lived.

Knight of New Alara	2gw
Creature - Human Knight	Rare
Each other multicolored creature you control gets +1/+1 for each of its colors.
2/2

Much like Creakwood Liege, I expect nothing to come of this. Amazing for casual and limited though.

Knotvine Paladin	gw
Creature - Human Knight	Rare
Whenever Knotvine Paladin attacks, it gets +1/+1 for each untapped creature you control.
2/2

This guy has more potential than I can handle. Toss a Warhammer (Or Behemoth Sledge) on this guy and let him go to
town in your exalted deck. I love the design of this card, but it might be too fragile.

Leonin Armorguard	2gw
Creature - Cat Soldier	Common
When Leonin Armorguard comes into play, creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn.
3/3

Hill Giant with a decent ability. Mid level pick in limited.

Mycoid Shepherd	1ggw
Creature - Fungus	Rare
Whenever Mycoid Shepherd or another creature you control with power 5 or greater is put into a graveyard from play, you may gain 5 life.
5/4

I like this more than Spellbreaker Behemoth, but I like that we're getting more 5 power guys for 4. This guy is definitely better in
limited than the Behemoth, and probably better in constructed depending on the meta. Then again, you can just run both anyway.

Pale Recluse	4gw
Creature - Spider	Common
Reach
Forestcycling 2, plainscycling 2 (2, Discard this card: Search your library for a Forest of Plains card, reveal it, and put it into your
hand. Then shuffle your library.)
4/5

This is the best card in this cycle, and is barely overcosted (Or not at all, compared to Jungle Weaver). I don't know why t
hey couldn't all be this useful.

Qasali Pridemage	gw
Creature - Cat Wizard	Common
Exalted
1, Sacrifice Qasali Pridemage: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
2/2

This guy is the shit. A 2/2 exalted for 2 is already ahead of the curve (Sorry, Outrider of Jhess) and adding the sac ability
makes this guy amazing. Viridean Zealout saw tons of play, and he wishes he was this good.

Reborn Hope	gw
Sorcery	Common
Return target multicolored card from your graveyard to your hand.

Late pick in limited, though definitely playable depending on your deck. Too restricting for constructed
most likely, but sure to see play in casual and EDH decks.

Sigil Captain	1gww
Creature - Rhino Soldier	Uncommon
Whenever a creature comes into play under your control, if that creature is 1/1, put two +1/+1 counters on it.
3/3

This guy is a late pick for limited. He'll usually be a hard to cast Hill Giant, but he has the potential to help you out a little.
My big complaint with this guy is that the wording makes him useless in multiples. If it simply said
"Whenever a 1/1 creature comes into play under your control put two +1/+1 counters on it." it would be much, much better.

Sigil of the Nayan Gods	1gw
Enchantment - Aura	Common
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 for each creature you control.
Cycling {g/w}

Pretty bland as far as auras go, and lacks the power of Blanchwood Armor. Still alright though, and cycling for 1
is useful.

Sigiled Behemoth	4gw
Creature - Beast	Common
Exalted
5/4

Another solid limited creature. All these big mana guys are making the limited playable Craw Wurm look like a hobo.

Wildfield Borderpost	1gw
Artifact	Common
You may pay 1 and return a basic land you control its owner's hand rather than pay Wildfield Borderpost's mana cost.
Wildfield Borderpost comes into play tapped.
{T}: Add {G} or {W} to your mana pool.

See Fieldmist Borderpost.

Identity Crisis	2wwbb
Sorcery	Rare
Remove all cards in target player's hand and graveyard from the game.

I've always been a big fan of Amnesia, and this is even better. It's a bit expensive for limited, but
a nice sideboard card against unearth decks. This has potential for constructed sideboards as well,
as well as a great casual card to either punish that guy who's always using his graveyard or just cripple
someone before some sort of symmetrical graveyard effect like Living Death.

Necromancer's Covenant 3wbb
Enchantment	Rare
When Necromancer's Covenant comes into play, remove all creature cards in target player's graveyard from the game, then put a 2/2 black Zombie
creature token into play for each card removed this way.
Zombies you control have lifelink.

When I first read this I thought it said all graveyards. Even so, this is still a very fun card, a bomb in limited, and a great addition to
casual zombie decks, as well as other casual decks. I would even like this is a win condition in constructed except that it loses to
Volcanic Fallout.

Tainted Sigil	1wb
Artifact	Uncommon
{T}: Sacrifice Tainted Sigil: You gain life equal to the total life lost by all players this turn. (Damage causes loss of life.)

Probably unplayable in anything except casual, but this can be great in a big multiplayer game when someone plays an Earthquake
or any other mass damage spell. It would be fine for limited except that to use it as a fog you would die before you gain life
(If they attack for lethal, of course).

Vectis Dominator	1wb
Artifact Creature - Human Wizard	Common
{T}: Tap target creature unless its controller pays 2 life.

Can't this just tap the creature? Sure it's still playable in limited, but I feel like this should flatout tap the creature and not give them
an option. This reminds me of a much crappier Mundungu. That's right, I remember every card I've ever played, and Mundungu was
a personal favourite.

Zealous Persecution	wb
Instant	Uncommon
Until end of turn, creatures you control get +1/+1 and creatures target opponent controls get -1/-1.

This is a great combat trick. It's good for offense, defense, or just general sweeping of little creatures. This is another card that can be
great in multiplayer if your friends play a lot of tokens. It's like Simoon except it doesn't hurt your guys! (And is too completely different colours)

Cloven Casting	5ur
Enchantment	Rare
Whenever you play a multicolored instant or sorcery, you may pay 1. If you do, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.

This is a pretty disappointing rare. I understand that it's probably fairly costed, but it's a 7 mana spell with no immediate effect.
Sure the cost to fork your spells is really low, but it's a pretty intense restriction.

Double Negative uur
Instant	Uncommon
Counter up to two target spells.

Cute.

Magefire Wings ur
Enchantment - Aura	Common
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +2/+0 and has flying.

Perfectly reasonable for limited, probably a 7th pick.

Skyclaw Thrash 3ur
Artifact Creature - Viashino Warrior	Uncommon
Whenever Skyclaw Thrash attacks, flip a coin. If you win the flip, Skyclaw Thrash gets +1/+1 and gains flying until end of turn.
4/4

I'm partial to stuff like this because I love coin flip. Yes, I have a coin flip deck and yes it has 4x Ydwen Efreets. Anyway, worst case
scenario is it's an average creature, but there's a 50% chance that it will attack as a giant, flying clock.

Spellbound Dragon	3ur
Creature - Dragon	Rare
Flying.
Whenever Spellbound Dragon attacks, draw a card, then discard a card. Spellbound Dragon gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the discarded
card's converted mana cost.
3/5

The base power on this guy is too low for constructed play, but it's still an amazing bomb in limited. It's a big flying beater that also provides
card selection. For only 5 mana, you can't get much better in limited.

Lord of Extinction	3bg
Creature - Elemental	Mythic Rare
Lord of Extinction's power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in all graveyards.
*/*

That is, until you crack this guy. This guy is the culmination of everything that is Llurgoyf. In big multiplayer games, we used to have dice
with skulls on them from the board game Hero Quest. When a creature like Llurgoyf or anything else with variable power and toughness
got too big, we would stop using regular dice and simply put a die with a skull on it. It's actualy power and toughness were totally irrelevant
because one hit and you were dead. This guy, in most situations, comes into play with one of those counters. He's also a two card instant
win combo: Lord of Extinction + Rites of Consumption = Game Over. While this won't always be true, it will be true so frequently that I can't imagine
ignoring the potential of this card. If nothing else this guy is ridiculous in limited, especially if you can give it some sort of evasion,
and amazing for casual. Casual players: go buy Pandemoniums now if you don't already have 4.

Maelstrom Pulse	1bg
Sorcery	Rare
Destroy target nonland permanent and each permanent that shares a name with that permanent.

Little needs to be said about this. It's echoing Vindicate. This will be very good in standard, especially with tokens running around
everywhere, it will be excellent in extended, pretty much replacing Vindicate since that's rotated out, and it may replace Vindicate
in Legacy if it sees play there as well. I'm not familiar enough with Legacy to know how much play, if any, it sees or to know how
often you want to destroy a land, but it will definitely be the hottest card in the set, at least out of the gates.

Marrow Chomper	3bg
Creature - Zombie Lizard Uncommon
Devour 2
When Marrow Chomper comes into play, you gain 2 life for each creature Marrow Chomper devoured.
3/3

Solid devour creature. It's no Tar Fiend or Mycloth, but it's still playable.

Morbid Bloom	4gb
Sorcery	Uncommon
Remove target creature card in a graveyard from the game, then put X 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens into play, where X is the removed card's toughness.

This can be good in limited, but it's a bit situational. For 6 mana I expect a lot of tokens. Dragon Fodder can get me 2
tokens for 2 mana and Spore Burst can get me 5 tokens for 4 mana, so this had better get me more. It has the potential to,
but it seems unlikely. I expect people to draft this highly at first thinking of how awesome Necrogenesis is, and then
like it less and less each time they play it.

Putrid Leech	bg
Creature - Leech	Common
Pay 2 life: Putrid Leech gets +2/+2 until end of turn. Play this ability only once each turn.
2/2

Excellent limited creature, possibly as high as a 3rd or 4th pick. Very skill testing.

Cerodon Yearling	rw
Creature - Beast Common
Vigilance, haste
2/2

Why does this guy get to be flat out better than Rip-Clan Clasher? Solid mid level pick for limited, and vigilace menas it
has constructed potential as well.

Fight to the Death	rw
Instant	Rare
Destroy all blocking creatures and all blocked creatures.

This is interesting if nothing else. In a limited deck with a lot of token generation it's great. In fact, in limited it
can be useful in countless situations. Too situational for constructed though.

Glory of Warfare	2rw
Enchantment	Rare
As long as it's your turn, creatures you control get +2/+0.
As long as it's not your turn, creatures you control get +0/+2.

This is the sort of rare I fucking hate. This card is perfectly fine in limited and too good to show up at uncommon. That said, if it has to be rare,
why can't the just make it give your guys +2/+2? We already have Glorious Anthem and Light From Within, I don't think that 4 mana and 2
colours for +2/+2 is pushing the power level too hard. But what do I know, Orcish Oriflamme was once banned for being too powerful (And no,
not the Alpha version that only costs 1R, the regular one).

Intimidation Bolt 1rw
Instant	Uncommon
Intimidation Bolt deals 3 damage to target creature. Other creatures can't attack this turn.

Removal and fog on the same card. This is first pick material.

Stun Sniper	rw
Creature - Human Archer	Uncommon
1, {T}: Stun Sniper deals 1 damage to target creature. Tap that creature.
1/1

This card REALLY makes me wonder why the B/W guy gives them the option of paying life instead of letting you tap the guy. This is
another first or second pick card. It may be fragile, but it comes down earlier and provides both stall and removal. Stun Sniper is basically
saying "It's cool, Thundersong Trumpeter. I know everyone liked you, but I got this".

Wisescale Coatl*	1gu
Creature - Snake	Uncommon
Whenever you draw a card, you may put a +1/+1 counter on Wisescale Coatl.
2/2

This is another really high limited pick, and this one makes me wonder if it has constructed applications. It takes a while to get big if you
aren't using any card draw, but if you play this guy turn 3 (or 2 with green accel) and play Sift the next turn, he's suddenly swinging for 6.
It's probably not quite powerful enough for constructed, but a nice 1st or 2nd pick.

Nulltread Gargantuan	1gu
Creature - Beast	Uncommon
When Nulltread Gargantuan comes into play, return a creature you control to the top of its owner's library.
5/6

Talk about a gamble. Yeah, you can drop this guy turn 2 easily if you ran 4x Birds of Paradise and 4x Noble Hierarch. The question is,
do you really want to in a format where Terminate is legal? Of course, in limited there's much less removal that kills this guy and your opponent
isn't going to have 4x of any of them, so definitely a high pick.

Sages of the Anima	3gu
Creature - Elf Wizard	Rare
If you would draw a card, instead reveal the top three cards of your library. Put all creature cards revealed this way into your hand and the rest on
the bottom of your library in any order.
3/4

Great card for limited, casual, and EDH. In limited just make sure your deck is basically all creatures, because you need to use this
guy to keep pumping out threats. The second you're only getting 0-1 creatures off him a turn, it's over.

Vedalken Heretic	gu
Creature - Vedalken Shaman	Rare
Whenever Vedalken Heretic deals damage to an opponent, you may draw a card.
1/1

I don't know why everyone has such a hardon for Ophidian creatures. Okay at best for limited, and that's about it. The fact that it
doesn't need to be combat damage gives this guy casual applications, but casual can just run Quicksilver Dagger and skip this
guy all together.

Winged Coatl	1gu
Creature - Snake	Common
Flash
Flying, deathtouch
1/1

Fine for limited, and that's it. It's less effective removal than Snakeform (Only gets attacking creatures, not blocking), and it doesn't
cantrip.

Enigma Sphinx	4wub
Artifact Creature - Sphinx	Rare
Flying
When Enigma Sphinx is put into your graveyard from play, put it into your library third from the top.
Cascade (When you play this spell, remove cards from the top of your library from the game until your reveal a nonland card that costs less. You may
play it without paying its mana cost. Put the removed cards on the bottom in a random order.)
5/4

Am I the only one that wishes they would change blue's iconic creature type back to Djinn instead of Sphinx? I would LOVE to see the
combo that the R&D playtesters came up with that make this guy too powerful to put on top of your library. A
7 mana 5/4 flyer isn't impressive at all, even with a super crappy recursion ability. Cascade could make it better, except that because
it will cast ANYTHING that costs less than 7 mana, the chances of getting something that makes this mana cost worthwhile is unlikely,
unless your deck has a curve so high that the deck is unplayable and will never get to 7 mana anyway. Like most of this rares though,
as awful as it is for constructed it's still a bomb in limited and fun for casual players.

Esper Sojourners	wub
Artifact Creature - Human Wizard?	Common
When you cycle Esper Sojourners or it's put into a graveyard from play, you may tap or untap target permanent.
Cycling 2{U}
2/3

This cycle is certainly interesting, though I'm not a big fan of this guy. A vanilla 2/3 for 3 different coloured
mana isn't great, and his ability isn't likely to be too relevant when it leaves play. Still playable as an
uncounterable Twitch though.

Etherwrought Page	1wub
Artifact	Uncommon
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose one - You gain 2 life; or look at the top card of your library, then you may put that card into your graveyard; or
each opponent loses 1 life.

This is far too expensive and hard to cast. You can do all 3 of things with much better cards, and the versatility doesn't make up for the
complete lack of power.

Sen Triplets	2wub
Legendary Artifact Creature - Human Wizard	Mythic Rare
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose target opponent. This turn, that player cant play spells or activated abilities and plays with
his or her hand revealed. You can play cards from that players hand this turn.
3/3

This card is certainly splashy, and quite good in limited. It's too fragile for constructed, but it should be extremely popular for
casual players.

Sphinx of the Steel Wind	5wub
Artifact Creature - Sphinx	Mythic Rare
Flying, first strike, vigilance, lifelink, protection from Red and from Green
6/6

This will never replace Akroma in constructed decks since it lacks haste, but it's still a huge bomb. It's also just as hard to kill since
red and green are the colours with artifact destruction, and being both black and an artifact saves it from much of black's removal.
I'm sure people will try this as a finisher in control, but there are better options. Another amazing card for casual decks, and it is
VERY important to point out that this isn't legendary.

Drastic Revelation	2ubr
Sorcery	Uncommon
Discard your hand. Draw seven cards, then discard three cards at random.

I'm surprised to see this at uncommon, probably just because it has such a nostalgic Wheel of Fortune feel.
Playable in limited as a one of (lest you mill yourself) if you're running a fast deck that can empty its hand.
Unlikely to see any standard play, but this will definitely be a favourite of casual player as a ridiculous
madness/dredge/flashback/unearth enabler.

Grixis Sojourners	1ubr
Creature - Zombie?	Common
When you cycle Grixis Sojourners or it's put into a graveyard from play, you may remove target card in a graveyard from the game.
Cycling 2{B}
4/3

I rarely expect to see this guy cycled, and it should not cost 3 mana to do so, but 4 power for 4 mana
is still very solid for limited.

Thraximundar	4ubr
Legendary Creature - Zombie Assassin	Mythic Rare
Haste
Whenever Thraximundar attacks, defending player sacrifices a creature.
Whenever a player sacrifices a creature, you may put a +1/+1 counter on Thraximundar.
6/6

So 7 mana for a cruel edict and a 7/7 haste creature that you can make bigger and can keep hurting your opponent? This might
be the best reanimation target in standard, but I have little hope for it being hardcast. It's a mythic rare, so I don't need to say
that it's both a limited bomb and great casual card.

Unscythe, Killer of Kings ubbr
Legendary Artifact - Equipment	Rare
Equipped creature gets +3/+3 and has first strike.
Whenever a creature dealt damage by equipped creature this turn is put into a graveyard, you may remove that card from the game. If you
do, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token into play.
Equip 2

If you can get this equipped then it's a pretty powerful ability. It's playable in limited, but I wouldn't pick it too highly unless you're heavily
in Grixis colours already as the cost is really prohibitive. Far too expensive for constructed, but should still hold a moderate
amount of casual interest.

Dragon Appeasement	3brg
Enchantment	Uncommon
Skip your draw step.
Whenever you sacrifice a creature, you may draw a card.

This card is harder to cast than Recycle, harder to use than
Recycle, and harder to abuse than Recycle. Thank God this is an uncommon and not a rare.

Jund Sojourners brg
Creature - Human Warrior?	Common
When you cycle Jund Sojourners or it is put into a graveyard from play, Jund Sojourners deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
Cylcling 2{R}
3/2

This guy is really good if you're already in all 3 colours. In combat it's an effective 4/2, but it can also trade with a creature
and take out a small creature as well or get that extra damage in. I wouldn't run it just for the cycling ability, much like you
wouldn't pick Flare too highly in a draft, but it's nice that it has that ability as an option.

Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund 4brg
Legendary Creature - Dragon	Mythic Rare
Flying, haste
When Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund comes into play, gain control of all Dragon creatures in play and untap them.
Dragon creatures you control have haste.
7/7

The Timmy's of the world simultaneously ejaculated when this card was spoiled. A 7/7 flying haste Dragon is exciting
enough for Timmy. Giving all your other dragons haste is even more exciting. Stealing all dragons is the icing on top
of the cake that is already like 50% icing to begin with. The card may as well be called "Karrthus, EDH General".

Lavalanche	xbrg
Sorcery	Rare
Lavalanche deals X damage to target player and each creature he or she controls.

Take about a bomb in limited! If mana ramp decks become popular again, this will be an auto include. Considering
how much this set helps aggro and hurts control, however, I don't see mana ramp surviving through the "ramp" portion
of its strategy to play this. Another fantastic casual card though, especially because, unlike cards like Earthquake, it lets
you cripple the player who is your biggest threat without making yourself the target of everone's rage.

Madrush Cyclops	1brg
Creature - Cyclops Warrior	Rare
Creatures you control have haste.
3/4

Elegant and efficient. This has constructed potential, but there's already so much haste in standard that it would only
really fit well into a token deck. (But it would fit there ver nicely).

Gloryscale Viashino	1rgw
Creature - Viashino Soldier	Uncommon
Whenever you play a multicolored spell, Gloryscale Viashino gets +3/+3 until end of turn.
3/3

This guy is solid in limited because he can be attacking for 6 on turn 5, but the fact
that he encourages you to play spells before your attack phase makes him undesirable for
constructed.

Mayael's Aria	rgw
Enchantment	Rare
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control if you control a creature with power 5 or greater. Then
you gain 10 life if you control a creature with power 10 or greater. Then you win the game if you control a creature with power 20 or greater.

This card is certiainly playable in limited if you have a few 5 power guys. All it takes is one or two triggers to give you more 5 power guys
making it guarenteed to trigger every turn. This makes Cavern Thoctar seem extremely attractive because with the wording of
the trigger allows you to pump creatures in response: the only condition is that you have a creature with power 5 or greater for it to trigger,
the other conditional statements don't check until resolution. I wouldn't really expect to hit 20 life, but you can easily start gaining 10 life a turn
off a Cavern Thoctar. It's too slow and condition for constructed play, but expect to see this card banned from kitchen tables everywhere.
If you thought winning with Test of Endurance was easy, just try building a deck around this.

Naya Sojourners	2rgw
Creature - Elf Shaman	Common
When you cycle Naya Sojourners or it is put into a graveyard from play, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature
Cycling 2{G}
5/3

Efficient 5 power creature and a cantripping combat trick. Excellent 4th or 5th pick, higher if you're low on late game creatures.

Retaliator Griffin	1rgw
Creature - Griffin	Rare
Flying
Whenever a source an opponent controls deals damage to you, you may put that many +1/+1 counters on Retaliator Griffin.
2/2

Remember how much Blood Hound sucks? They decided not only to fix it, but to give it flying and an awesome creature
type. Too slow for constructed and it lacks the "build around me" fun that would be created if it triggered from all damage
(Pyrohemia, anyone?) but it's an excellent limited creature.

Uril, the Miststalker	2rgw
Legendary Creature - Beast	Mythic Rare
Uril, the Miststalker can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.
Uril gets +2/+2 for each Aura attached to it.
5/5

Wizards REALLY wants us to use creature enchantments, huh? At 5/5 for 5 this guy is already solid for limited, but if you have
any playable enchantments, now's the time to use them. I would love to see someone play this in standard with Shield of the
Oversoul, but I know that's still not efficient enough.

Bant Sojourners	1gwu
Creature - Human Soldier	Common
When you cycle Bant Sojourners or it's put into a graveyard from play, you may put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token into play.
Cycling 2{W}
2/4

As a leaves play ability the solider is nice, as a cycling ability it's not nearly as good. A 2/4 for 4 with a prohibitive cost isn't
great either, so I'd only take this guy as a late pick and say he's a 23rd card.

Finest Hour	2gwu
Enchantment	Rare
Exalted
Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, if its the first combat phase of the turn, untap that creature. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase.

I love this card. The ability to attack twice helps curb the downside of exalted (Being that they can just keep chump blocking you), as well as makes
the creature attacking even more threatening if you attack with the same creature. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have multiple of these in
play, you get multiple extra combat phases. The attacking creature only gets untapped once (technically multiple times, but all during your first
combat phase, so it only gets to attack one more time, but you can use tap abilities), but you get an addition combat phase for each Finest Hour.
With two copies of Finest Hour you can attack with a guy, untap him (twice technically), attack with him again, then attack with another creature
or creatures. This is EXTREMELY powerful, and has some real constructed potential.

Flurry of Wings	wug
Instant	Uncommon
Put X 1/1 Bird Soldier tokens with flying into play, where X is the number of attacking creatures.

This is should be a very high pick in limited. It can fog, it can provide you the extra power to take out
attacking creatures and swing combat in your favour, or it can let you attack your opponent with reckless
abondon and still have a swarm of creatures to block with. Too situational for constructed, but this is another
great card for casual players.

Jenara, Asura of War	gwu
Legendary Creature - Angel	Mythic Rare
Flying
1{W}: Put a +1/+1 counter on Jenara, Asura of War.
3/3

Great creature for limited, and an excellent EDH general. For constructed it's merely efficient unless you sink all your mana into it, so
I expect the excitement over it to die down.

Wargate	xgwu
Sorcery	Rare
Search your library for a permanent card with converted mana cost X or less and put it into play. Then shuffle your library.

I want to hate this card because it lacks both the Convoke and instant speed that make Chord of calling great,
but it's really not bad. If Tron or 8 post are still viable in extended, they would make a great home for this.. In a big mana deck this
gives you the option of being a 3 mana Reap and Sow to get you big mana lands or Academy Ruins, or it can get you creatures like
Sundering Titan, or it can get you Mindslaver. The versatility is surprisingly strong and makes the sorcery speed understandable.
As good as I realize it is, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth though.

Maelstrom Nexus	wubrg
Enchantment	Mythic Rare
The first spell you play each turn has Cascade.

This is a powerful effect and great for casual, but the only constructed play it could see is, at best, a one of in 5 colour control.
It does count each turn though, not just your own, so Cryptic Command can yield free Plumeveils or Volcanic Fallouts.

Arsenal Thresher	2{wb}u
Artifact Creature - Construct	Common
As Arsenal Thresher comes into play, reveal any number of artifacts from your hand. Put a +1/+1 counter on Arsenal Thresher for each card revealed this way.
2/2

It's an improved version of amplify! In an esper heavy limited deck this guy could wind up being a 4/4 or 5/5
for 4 which is great, but this is unlikely to work in constructed. Despite the synergy for an esper aggro deck
between this, Esperzoa, and Bone Saw, it's far too clunky and a terrible topdeck.

Esper Stormblade	{wb}u
Artifact Creature - Human Wizard?	Common
As long as you control another multicolored permanent, Esper Stormblade gets +1/+1 and has flying.
2/1

This whole cycle is great for limited and I expect they will be very high picks because they add a lot of
speed to an otherwise mostly slow format. Unless the Borderposts start to see a lot of play, however, only one
of these guys has much of a chance.

Thopter Foundry {wb}u
Enchantment	Uncommon
1, Sacrifice a nontoken artifact: Put a 1/1 blue Thopter artifact creature token with flying into play. You gain 1 life.

Another great limited card and a moderately high pick. Being reusable and being able to sac any artifact, not
just creatures, makes this great.

Grixis Grimblade	{ur}b
Creature - Zombie Warrior	Common
As long as you control another multicolored permanent, Grixis Grimblade gets +1/+1 and has deathtouch.
2/1

See Esper Stormblade.

Sewn-Eye Drake	2{ur}b
Creature - Zombie Drake	Common
Flying, haste
3/1

Decent limited flyer, too fragile for my tastes for constructed.

Slave of Bolas	3{ur}b
Sorcery	Uncommon
Gain control of target creature. Untap that creature. It gains haste until end of turn. Sacrifice that creature at end of turn.

Very powerful threaten ability. A first pick in limited, and has constructed potential, possibly as a sideboard card.

Giant Ambush Beetle	3{bg}r
Creature - Insect	Uncommon
Haste
When Giant Ambush Beetle comes into play, you may have target creature block it this turn if able.
4/3

I would take this card exactly as high as I take Bloodpyre Elemental. It's a 5 mana creature that acts as a 4 damage
removal spell. This one can potential survive taking out the creature, but there are also more ways for them to
get out of losing the targeted creature.

Jund Hackblade {bg}r
Creature - Goblin Berserker	Common
As long as you control another multicolored permanent, Jund Hackblade gets +1/+1 and has haste.
2/1

This is the one that has a good chance at seeing constructed play. There's so much haste in R/G right now and
so many multicoloured cards that this will normally be a 3/2. Only Figure of Destiny or the borderpost would allow you
to play this turn 2 with haste, but it's still fine later on turn 3 with a one drop or burn spell.

Sangrite Backlash	{bg}r
Enchantment - Aura	Common
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +3/-3.

Perfectly playable as a removal spell. It's no Nameless Inversion, but still a high pick.

Marisi's Twinclaws	2{wr}g
Creature - Cat Warrior	Uncommon
Double strike
2/4

If we can get 4/4 creatures with no drawback for 4 at common, this should be surprising at all. At (effectively) 4/4 for 4 this
is efficient, and double strike means it could be constructed playable with pump effects. With all the help that B/R is getting,
I wouldn't be surprised to see this played alongside the Blightning enabled Wilt-Leaf Liege.

Naya Hushblade {wr}g
Creature - Elf Warrior?	Common
As long as you control another multicolored permanent, Naya Hushblade gets +1/+1 and has shroud.
2/1

See Esper Stormblade.

Passed Abundance*	{wr}g
Enchantment - Aura	Common
Enchant land
Enchanted land has shroud.
Whenever enchanted land is tapped for mana, you may add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

Fertile ground that's harder to cast and eliminates the two for one. If land destruction was played more, that would be
great. Mana ramp still might prefer this over Fertile Ground just in case, but it's pretty unspectacular. Two mana accel
is great in this limited format though, and this is definitely a mid level pick.

Bant Sureblade	{ug}w
Creature - Human Knight?	Common
As long as you control another multicolored permanent, Bant Sureblade gets +1/+1 and has first strike.
2/1

See Esper Stormblade.

Crystallization	{ug}w
Enchantment - Aura	Common
Enchanted creature can't attack or block.
Whenever enchanted creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, remove it from the game.

Fine removal for limited. It's basically pacifism, but if you have a Tim or something you can RFG them and end any continuous or
activated abilities they may have.

Messenger Falcons	2{ug}w
Creature - Bird	Uncommon
Flying
When Messenger Falcons comes into play, draw a card.
2/2

And we end the list with a fine limited card that will see no constructed play. I wish I was surprised.

Overview of Alara Reborn

Alara Reborn is a great set. Because they cards are all multicoloured, the average power level gets to be higher. Of the 145 cards in the set, almost all of them are, at the very least, playable in limited. There are about 3 cards that are truly bad, and otherwise everything is at worst a 23rd card for limited. This set has a lot of spike cards and is a casual player's dream. Alara Reborn is, by far, the best set in this block, which is really unusual. I'm really looking forward to playing with these cards.

I hope to be able to add more analysis soon, but I had to get this up as fast as I could. I'll provide a link to discussion as soon as one exists.
