Get Your Politics Out Of My Inbox!

Today is the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November, and that means it's election day. Apparently what that also means for the first time ever, as far as I'm aware, is that when I log into my yahoo e-mail account, I have to deal with seeing a fucking banner telling me to "Vote 'NO' on Question 1". Question 1 in Massachusetts is about getting rid of the income tax, which is something I'd like to do. A "no" vote means that nothing will change. Why am I not surprised that the people who want to keep the income tax so the state government can keep throwing money at all the pork in the budget has enough money to throw around for geographically specific banner ads on major websites? Not only do I not want this sort of shit on banner ads in my inbox since I have to drive past signs on people's lawns about it, but the organization against this resolution is rather blatantly stretching the truth. Both sides are making fairly outrageous claims about what will happen if we do or do not get rid of the income tax, but there's one thing which is fact: those in favour of getting rid of it showed what the current budget is and what it would be without the income tax, which was 27% less. Those against the resolution ignore those numbers and insist that the state will lose "almost 40%" of it's funding.

Aside from the fact that I'm sure we could easily cut 40% of our budget without actually doing any damage, in what fucking world is 27 almost 40? Would you say that 30 is almost 40? Because this is almost 30, so that would make it almost almost 40, and only if you consider 30 to be almost 40, which I don't. They're saying that we will lose almost 1.5 times what we will actually lose. I can make anything sound scary if I'm allowed to say that things are almost 50% more than they actually are. "I'm sorry, ma'am, but your child was born with almost 3 eyes." See? Sounds scary until you realize that by almost 3, I mean just the two that they're supposed to have.

Why can't I just have Viagra ads like everyone else?
